Description
Here is a story character from a friend, Daniel.Cerebrus possesses a person every so many hundered years. Cerebrus is the guardian of the gates of hell.Which is Earth. Demons and Angels both try to take control of the gates of hell. Cerebrus is supposed to keep the angels and demons who also possess people, and return them to where they belong which is what the keys are for, the gates of hell.
All free hand painted from scratch. I'm not sure does it fit as all free hand painted because I reproduced the texture on the stone wall base on the floor that I already painted. Same with the tree, I painted the bottom part and then just use stamp tool regenerate some more texture on the upper part of the tree. I only did half of the gate door, another half was just copy and past. A lot of people say that I know photoshop very well because I use those function. Yeah, but the bottom line is you have to be able to paint good texture first.
No reference for the background or clothes but used myself as a model from head to toe for the figure. I'm kind of tired and confused seeing people who paint very well with heavy photo references but when it comes to make up something from scratch, the skill is like a big backward jump. I'm confused about where the limitation of using photo reference is but not just duplicate the exact same things. BTW, I do not and have never ever done anything using photo elements or photomanipulation
in my art. So please don't ask me about using photomanipulation again. I consider that as disrespect to my works. Thanks.
I couldn't stand with the sky. It bugged me so I jsut spent 1~2 hours to retouched it again.

Concept:Strong |
Technical Skill:Very strong |
Impact/impression:Very strong |
Pros:The figure is masterfully done--wonderful pose, expression, not a single thing I can criticize. The colors of the environment work perfectly to complement the figure--the dress is the perfect POP for focal point.
Cons:The background isn't as well rendered as some of the foreground elements. It's almost as if the figure, the tree and the gate were high priorities while the other elements were afterthoughts.
The perspective of the wall and flagstones seems a little off, though not so much as to be distracting. They're just not as finished as the rest. The vines on the wall aren't working well. I'm not sure if it's the placement of the vines, the size, the lack of detail, the lack of depth...but they aren't doing it. Overall opinion/feedback:This is such a great piece of work. The figure alone contains enough lovely details and subtleties to keep me happily occupied. The tree is so well done--great lighting, great details, and it works so well with the figure.
The details on the gate are equally amazing. I think the piece is stunning as is, but if you'd do a little work to flesh out the background, this would literally knock people to the floor. |

Concept:Average |
Technical Skill:Strong |
Impact/impression:Weak |
Pros:The technique and skill on everything is way up there! The anatomy and dress for one are superb!
Cons:The entire concept itself makes for a weak impression:
Overall opinion/feedback:Average concept with an average take will always lead to a weak impact. Wish you would put your talent to better use. +6

The perspective looks kinda odd, but very interseting, the detailes of the tiles, dress, hand and everything are hypnotizing and almost sharper then reality is.
Awesome work, no crits just greatness

I'm at work now, but I'd like to post a review on your piece when I get home.

I really enjoy most of your work. But this one didn't give me the same sense of pleasure I usually feel when viewing your work.

and I *love* the design of the tree

But hand, head and feet are amazing! Photomanipulated?

but while the eyes looked ok on the thmbnail blowup, i'm afraid they start looking a bit odd at this resolution.

The perspective of the gate is bugging me too. It looks like its tilted backwards in stead of beging parallel to the wall.
